Axie Infinity creator Sky Mavis has partnered with game studios to drive the adoption of Web 3.0. The game developers will power their creations using Ronin Network, a move some translate to mean that Sky Mavis is positioning its blockchain as a gaming hub. The protocol is also moving to a delegated proof of stake (DPoS) mechanism to improve community engagement.
Web 2 and 3 Veterans are Welcome
According to Sky Mavis, Bowled.io, Tribes, Directive Games, and Bali Games were chosen from a list of over 200 game developers. The chosen developers focus on different spheres of the gaming world, which Sky Mavis’ Kathleen Osgood said was meant to bring more people into the space. Osgood added that Sky Mavis will focus on games that would appeal to both Web 3.0 veterans and Web 2 users.
However, new games emanating from the partnership won’t have a connection to the NFT game Axie Infinity although some like Bali Games are considering building a game that leverages Axies.
Ronin Knows How to Handle Trouble
Speaking to Decrypt, Directive Games CPO Kent Byers said that they settled on Ronin Network because the platform is developed by “game developers and gamers.” Byers added that the blockchain has shown resilience in the face of troubles, a likely reference to last year’s $540 million Ronin Network hack orchestrated by the Lazarus group.
Although Ronin Network enters the space when Web 3.0 developers are flocking to the likes of Polygon and ImmutableX, the success or failure of the four game developers will dictate its attractiveness among Web 3.0 developers.
