McDonald’s is expanding its fast food business to the virtual world and has launched “My Happy Place,” a metaverse platform for its Singaporean customers. The platform allows users to re-imagine the fast food chain’s products like burgers in a gamified environment. The metaverse also allows users to enter into competitions and earn virtual rewards that can be redeemed in a physical restaurant, increasing the platform’s appeal among its target customers.
Design Your Dream Metaverse Restaurant
The fast food heavyweight partnered with metaverse firm Bandwagon Labs to create the 3D world which it says will boost how its customers experience the restaurant.

According to available details, the platform is in a one-month trial period that will help guide further development. During this time, users can “design their dream restaurant” and “dress their avatars with McDonald’s outfits.”
Singaporeans holding the restaurant’s Grimace NFTs will be able to unlock exclusive features such as exploring a secret island. The NFT collection was released last year in partnership with Bandwagon Labs and featured 2,000 collectibles. This isn’t the restaurant’s first entry into the metaverse.
Last year, for example, its Hong Kong entity launched McNuggets Land in The Sandbox. McDonald’s continued metaverse exploration comes when other firms like coffee maker Starbucks have announced plans to sunset blockchain-based projects.
Starbucks Shuts Down NFT Project
Starbucks has indicated plans to shut down its NFT loyalty program, Odyssey, despite having sold NFTs to its customers. It also comes a few days after Google and Magic Leap announced a partnership to ease metaverse access and usage.
With MacDonald’s launching another metaverse platform, it’s to be seen whether other fast food restaurants like KFC will follow in its footsteps.
