- Bored Ape creator Yuga Labs has announced plans to acquire Roar Studios to enhance its metaverse game Otherside

Bored Ape creator Yuga Labs has announced plans to acquire Roar Studios to enhance its metaverse game Otherside, whose demo wowed fans last year. Some of the planned enhancements include offering gamers interactive social experiences. The acquisition will see Roar Studios founder Eric Reid join Yuga Labs as the game’s general manager.
Roar’s innovative Technology Includes AI
According to Reid, Yuga’s metaverse ambitions align with Roar’s since its main mission includes gaming and social media. In an announcement, Yuga Labs said that Roar Studios will bring on board its “innovative technology” which features artificial intelligence (AI).

Yuga Labs CEO Daniel Alegre commented on the development noting that the acquisition will help supercharge the execution of the metaverse game and also benefit the wider Yuga ecosystem. Yuga didn’t however disclose the cost of the acquisition or give a detailed overview of how it’ll leverage some of Roar’s tech in its metaverse game.
Roar’s acquisition adds to Yuga’s list of acquisitions meant to expand the Yuga ecosystem. In November last year, for example, Yuga acquired Beeple’s NFT startup Wenew, a move that Yuga’s co-founder Greg Solano described as a way to open endless collaborations.
From Web3 Firms to IP Rights
Apart from acquiring web3 firms, the Bored Ape creator has also purchased intellectual property rights (IP) rights of popular NFT projects like Meebits and CryptoPunks enabling it to control 35% of the NFT market share.
Its success has however seen the firm being accused of shilling Bored Ape while others have sought to rip off Bored Apes under the guise of artistic criticism.
With Yuga’s recent victory with the Dookey Dash NFT game, the acquisition of Roar Studios is likely to improve the adoption of Otherside and other Yuga web3 projects.
