Premier League champions Manchester City has revealed it’s deepening its exploration of the web3 world in collaboration with virtual collectibles platform Quidd. Announcing a multi-year partnership, Quidd will help the football club get closer to its fans using NFTs and other fan-focused experiences. Manchester City revealed that the collaboration will lead to the creation of new games, although they didn’t disclose whether those games will be powered by blockchain technology.

Experiences that Money Can’t Buy

In an announcement, Manchester City said it intends to use the cooperation to bring new “real-world rewards” like the club’s merchandise, tickets to football matches and other “money-can’t-buy experiences.”

Some of the exclusive opportunities will include a chance for collectors to watch a training session at the club’s official training grounds.

Quidd will kick off the partnership with an NFT collection featuring more than “200 bespoke player cards.” The first collection will be available on the Quidd marketplace from May 2, with the first collectors or “Cityzens” receiving “two free packs.”

According to Quidd CEO Michael Bramlage, the partnership is part of the marketplace’s mission to “revolutionize the world of sports collectibles [adding that Manchester City is] the most forward-thinking and progressive football club on earth.”

Manchester City-OKX Deal

This isn’t the club’s first foray into the digital collectibles space. Three days ago, for example, it released the “Unseen City Shirts” NFT collection in partnership with the OKX exchange. In 2022, Manchester City and OKX signed a sponsorship deal, further displaying the club’s interest in the blockchain world.

Manchester City joins other reputable football clubs like Manchester United, FC Barcelona and the Argentine Football Association who have started exploring the web3 space. Individual footballers like Cristiano Ronaldo have also launched NFT collections.

Although Manchester City is increasing its web3 efforts, it’s to be seen whether its fans will follow the club into the digital space.
