  • The partnership is meant to unite Argentina’s football diehards, players, and professional football teams in a virtual environment
  • This comes five days after Argentina won the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022

The Argentine Football Association (AFA) has joined hands with metaverse platform Upland to bring soccer diehards in the country new football experience. The move will see the country’s top football league, Liga Profesional de Fútbol (LPF), engage fans through NFTs and other exclusive benefits, while Upland will also give full ownership of collectibles featuring top moments from LPF games.

Fans Can Resell NFTs on User-operated Stores

Apart from bringing Argentine football fans together, AFA wants to tap the metaverse platform as an additional source of income through NFT sales. The partnership will also see Upland allow LPF fans on the platform to trade their NFTs and other virtual items on user-operated shops built on digital land plots on the platform.

According to Upland Co-founder Dirk Lueth, the partnership brings out “the true meaning of Web 3.0, which is community-focused and entrepreneurial.” AFA’s CMO Leandro Petersen acknowledged that moving into the metaverse enables LPF to get “closer to football fans from all over the world.”

Laliga Metaverse Tokens Enter Production

The announcement comes at the same time with news that TVM has started developing the Laliga metaverse tokens (La E On) after the two firms agreed a collaboration in May this year. TVM Blockchain Director Leo Choi revealed that La E On will be used “for NFT and P2E (Play to Earn) rewards” plus other fan activities.

AFA’s move to take LPF to the metaverse coincides with top soccer players like Cristiano Ronaldo and teams like Manchester United and Juventus launching NFTs and fan tokens, indicating a growing need to provide virtual experiences of real-world events.
