Crypto exchange Binance has permanently opened the door of its AI-based NFT generator to all its verified users. The NFT tool allows users to create unique artworks which are hosted on the exchange’s own blockchain known as BNB Smart Chain. Dubbed Bixel, the platform has been in beta mode since March under the name Bicasso which saw the exchange attract plagiarism accusations from a similar project with an almost similar name.

$2 for Smooth NFT Creation

According to the exchange, allowing only Know Your Customer-verified users to use the NFT creator tool is meant to boost security and trustworthiness while also meeting regulatory needs. Apart from being verified, Bixel users need to pay around $2 as a minting fee, which the exchange said will help ensure a smooth NFT creation process on the blockchain.

Created digital artworks can be listed on the exchange’s NFT marketplace Binance NFT or used as profile pictures. Binance announced the AI-powered NFT tool in March and generated 10,000 NFTs in roughly 2.5 hours during its testing phase.

Bicasso-Chatcasso, a Coincidence?

Its initial name, Bicasso, attracted plagiarism claims from Chatcasso, a project that won last year’s BNB Chain’s hackathon. In its defense, Binance said that the AI-based NFT tool was developed before the hackathon, alluding that the similarities between the names and functionality were just a coincidence.

Bixel’s permanent availability helps expand the list of NFTs listed on Binance NFT which hosts other collections including Cristiano Ronaldo’s digital artworks. The move also comes at a time when the exchange is facing increased pressure from regulators in the United States and other countries for allegedly failing to comply with regulations.

With more projects exploring the AI-NFT intersection, it’s yet to be seen whether Bixel will help Binance take the lead in this exploration.
