Apparel maker Adidas has partnered with Sui-based game Xociety to create Adidas-branded in-game character NFT skins packaged in mystery boxes. The limited edition NFTs will be available on May 16, and each box will retail for $129 on Sui NFT marketplace Tradeport. Xociety disclosed that it chose Adidas because the two “have a mutual focus on digital identity and creativity,” a move that propels Adidas’ mission to collaborate with NFT-focused entities.

Exploring On-Chain Gaming and Playable Worlds

Xociety noted that it’s exploring the intersection of “on-chain gaming and immersive, playable worlds.” The collection will have 2,600 mystery boxes. Apart from housing NFTs with different rarity levels, the boxes also have certificates to prove the authenticity of the collections, and the game’s tokens that make collectors shareholders in the game.

The rarest boxes will have eight Adidas sets, while the least rare will feature three sets. Some who commented on the partnership said it brings “global streetwear energy to the web3 gaming frontier.”

SuiPlay, for example, said that “this isn’t just a flex-it’s a paradigm shift.” TradePort termed it a “groundbreaking fusion of gaming, fashion, and web3.”

More Adidas-Web3 Links

This isn’t the first time the apparel giant is exploring web3. Adidas has in the past partnered with fashion company BAPE to create limited-edition sneakers that also exist as NFTs. It has also collaborated with web3 artist Fewocious to create the Trefoil Flower collection.

The apparel and sneaker giant also has running NFT collections like ALTs by Adidas. Other apparel and sports footwear makers like Nike and Puma are also exploring the web3 world through partnerships and solo NFT projects.

With Adidas partnering with Xociety and other web3 companies, it’s to be seen whether it’ll launch its own blockchain game.
