  • Ubisoft has started giving away free NFTs tied to its upcoming “Champions Tactics” game
  • The video game publisher is giving away 75,000 NFTs
  • The mint is currently open to people holding Warlords NFTs

Video game publisher Ubisoft has launched 75,000 free NFTs tied to its upcoming web3 game Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles. The mint is currently open to collectors holding Warlords NFTs with those on a whitelist expected to start minting on July 18. Powered by gaming-centric blockchain Oasys, Ubisoft has even waived transaction fees, which will help attract more collectors and gamers.

Three NFTs Per Wallet

According to the game’s website, over 23,000 NFTs dubbed “Champions” have been minted so far. Warlord NFT holders are allowed to mint five NFTs per warlord. Ubisoft also allows interested parties to buy some Warlord NFTs which currently retail at more than $100 on the secondary market.

Ubisoft has however put a maximum of three NFTs per wallet for collectors who’ll participate in the next phase of the mint opening on July 18. The game is currently in closed beta but Ubisoft targets to open it to the general public before November this year and release season two sometime in 2025.

The video game publisher disclosed that it’s working with partners like Aleph.im to ensure a fair distribution across all participants. The free NFT mint and a web3 game come three years after Ubisoft revealed its intentions to join the blockchain gaming bandwagon.

Ubisoft Partners with Immutable, Reddit, and Helika

It also comes a year after Ubisoft partnered with Immutable to develop a web3 game. The video game publisher didn’t disclose whether Champions Tactics is a result of this partnership.

The game publisher has also in the past partnered with social media platform Reddit to offer free Rabbids NFTs. Ubisoft recently collaborated with AI firm Helika to enhance Champions Tactics.

With close to half of the NFTs minted by Warlord NFT holders within hours, it’s to be seen whether collectors in the next phase will be lucky.
