Gaming and NFT platform Enjin has abandoned Efinity, a polkadot-powered protocol, for its own decentralized protocol known as Enjin blockchain. The platform will support the transition to the new home using a forked version of the platform dubbed Efinity Matrixchain. The Enjin team disclosed that it will bake major NFT features natively into the blockchain instead of employing smart contracts and also offer features allowing web3 developers to waive part of the gas fees.

Web3 Gaming and NFTs are a Perfect Match

According to Enjin CTO Witek Radomski, the new blockchain is centered around digital artworks and aims to ease the creation and distribution of collectibles. Radomski also said that the Enjin team has its eyes set on revolutionizing NFT ownership, web3 identity and gaming.

Enjin’s CFO, Oscar Tan, observed that NFTs will be at the center of an approaching blockchain gaming wave accelerated by virtual reality and artificial intelligence among other technologies.

Tan’s views resemble those of OpenSea CEO Devin Finzer who said that NFTs and web3 gaming are a perfect match. They also coincide with a Stratis research stating that most game developers are contemplating using collectibles and blockchain for their upcoming titles.

Blockchain Gaming Attracts Traditional Players

Blockchain gaming has been gaining momentum and attracting traditional players like PUBG developer who recently announced a web3 platform dedicated to trading in-game NFTs. Electronic Arts has also announced a partnership with Nike to offer in-game NFTs. Others like Sky Mavis, Razer and Unity have also announced support for web3 gamers and game developers.

With Enjin building a web3-specific blockchain, it’s to be seen whether projects will migrate from Polygon, the second most popular gaming blockchain, to the new chain.
