- Ridley Scott’s production company will produce a film version of the book The Infinite Machine
- The book charts the foundation and rise of Ethereum and was written by Camilla Russo
- Scott’s production company Scott Free Productions will make the film
The production company of Ridley Scott, famed director of blockbuster films such as Alien and Blade Runner, will produce the film version of The Infinite Machine, Camilla Russo’s book charting the rise of Ethereum. Scott Free Productions, which recently produced House of Gucci and The Spider Network, bought the film rights, has already installed Shyam Madiraju to write and direct, with Scott himself producing alongside co-producers from Versus Entertainment.
Ethereum and Vitalik Have Their 15 Minutes
The Infinite Machine follows the dreams of 19-year-old Vitalik Buterin as he conceives, designs, and then launches the Ethereum network, with Russo’s book earning positive reviews for its telling of the story. Ethereum famously started out as nothing more than an idea of a former Bitcoin writer and has now become a blockchain behemoth worth $363 billion.
Russo yesterday said how excited she was to have such a stellar production team behind the movie:
It’s incredibly exciting to have Ridley Scott and the crew at Scott Free produce the movie of The Infinite Machine alongside us. I can’t imagine a better team to turn the riveting story about the people behind the most revolutionary technology since the internet into a feature film that will capture the hearts of our generation.
Crypto Films on the Up
Films about cryptocurrency have, unsurprisingly, grown in number in recent years – a movie version of the book Bitcoin Billionaires was announced in 2020; a film about the OneCoin scam was announced last year to star Kate Winslet; and the podcast series Exit Scam was recently made into the Netflix movie Trust No One. There is also at least one documentary about Satoshi Nakamoto in the works.
