Gaming heavyweight Ubisoft and web3 firm Immutable have partnered to create a free-to-play web3 card game known as “Might & Magic: Fates.” The game targets card game lovers on Android and iOS and promises to be simple with “no hard progression barriers.” The game is powered by Immutable with cards tradable through dedicated marketplaces, strengthening the link between traditional and blockchain-based gameplay.

A Secret Revealed

Ubisoft and Immutable first announced their partnership in 2023, but what they were working on remained a secret until now. Immutable co-founder Robbie Ferguson said the game will be released this year, adding that it builds on one of the “largest & longest-running gaming franchises in the world.”

According to Ferguson, Might & Magic has millions of global players and has attracted millions in funding over the years. For context, the game was developed by New World Computing, Arkane Studios, and Limbic Entertainment in 1984. It was published by several companies before entering Ubisoft’s stable in 2003.

Ferguson also noted that the game’s monthly active user base is expected to grow exponentially and “make the last few years look like a footnote,” adding that this is only the first stage of the partnership.

Immutable Targets One Billion Gamers

According to him, the web3 firm targets to bring more than one billion gamers to Immutable. Might and Magic: Fates players have the option to collect, customize decks, trade, and create strategies to defeat their opponents.

The game also offers a selection of legendary creatures. The web3 card game comes six months after the Assassin’s Creed creator launched its first original NFT game known as “Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles.”

With the Might & Magic: Fates being a reincarnation of an old game, it’s likely to bring more people into the web3 world when it launches later this year.
