The Norman Rockwell Museum and the Norman Rockwell Family have jointly unveiled an exciting venture into the world of NFTs, marking the first of its kind for the iconic American artist. Titled “Studio Sessions: The Norman Rockwell Collection,” the series promises collectors a unique opportunity to own a combination of digital and physical works from Rockwell’s archives, including previously unreleased images and process works. The launch comes when the NFT market is in the midst of a huge slump, showing that there is still hope for the potential in the sector.
Own a Piece of Art History
The Rockwell estate collaborated with Iconic, a platform specializing in aiding traditional art institutions in adopting emerging technologies, to launch the collection, with the former hoping to extend the artist’s legacy into the world of blockchain and NFTs. Iconic had previously partnered with the Jackson Pollock Studio to launch a similar NFT collection on the Ethereum network.
The collection is set to be unveiled on Iconic’s website on November 1, with the specific works to be included remaining a closely guarded secret until launch day. While details on pricing are also yet to be revealed, collectors will have the option to acquire these NFTs using cash or Ethereum.
Proceeds from the sale will go toward supporting the Norman Rockwell Museum’s core missions, such as preserving public access to Rockwell’s extensive body of work and nurturing a new generation of illustrators. Additionally, the Norman Rockwell Family will use the funds to oversee the artist’s work and legacy, 45 years after the artist passed.
Previously Unseen Work to Feature
Norman Rockwell, whose artworks depicted everyday scenes of twentieth-century American life and culture, achieved both popular and critical acclaim. “Studio Sessions” will provide a glimpse into the artistic process behind Rockwell’s paintings, showcasing thousands of preliminary sketches, photography sessions, drawings, and painted color studies that informed his masterpieces.
Each “Session” in the series will revolve around a specific celebrated Rockwell painting, and every NFT will come with a matching limited-edition museum-quality print.
