Japanese automobile giant Nissan has disclosed that it’s celebrating its 90th birthday in the metaverse with the launch of “Heritage Cars & Safe Drive [metaverse] Studio.” The offering showcases the company’s most popular cars throughout history plus a safety-themed experience for the automobiles. Nissan said that its latest metaverse push is a way “to explore new ways to engage with the public,” educate those less familiar with the automotive industry and attract the interest of “younger people.”

Impact of Pedestrian Clothing Colors on Drivers

In a press release, the company said that the studio will feature iconic cars manufactured between the 1950s and the 1980s. Among the cars on display are the Silvia Q’s (S13), Skyline 2000GTX-E and the Datsun Fairlady SPL213.

Some health and safety tips displayed in the immersive experience include “the impact of pedestrian clothing colors on drivers and […] field of view and multitasking”

The immersive experiences are developed in conjunction with individuals from Sagami Women’s University, Kitasato University and Niigata University.

According to Nissan, the cars are displayed in a metaverse environment that provides “backdrops for photo and video opportunities.” The environment also provides a place where “visitors can engage in mini-games and activities” meant to improve their traffic safety awareness.

Porsche and Toyota also Exploring Web3

Nissan’s move comes roughly a year after the company filed trademarks revealing its intention to create an NFT marketplace and metaverse-based advertising services, among other things. Nissan joins Porsche, Toyota and other automotive brands that are also exploring the blockchain world.

With the car maker celebrating its 90th anniversary in the metaverse, it’ll likely continue exploring the web3 world even after the celebrations.
