- Creators of the game Flappy Bird have disclosed that the next iteration will not include NFTs
- The creators however said that the game will have a crypto and web3 option
- They also disclosed that the game will always be free to play
The creators of the new Flappy Bird game, Flappy Bird Foundation, have revealed that the game won’t include NFTs despite having crypto and web3 options. The foundation said the game will maintain the same gameplay as it was over 10 years ago. It also disclosed that the web3 integrations are optional for players on Telegram and that “no web3 wallet connection [will be] required,” something that goes against the grain since most web3 games require a wallet and involve in-game NFTs.
Flappy Bird “Will Never Have NFTs”
In an X post, the foundation said that “the game will never have NFTs.” The foundation’s spokesperson told Cointelegraph that future game releases won’t have crypto options for players on mobile devices.
We’re building the ultimate experience for Flappy Bird players 🤝
The beloved core gameplay remains the same, but now you’ll have the *option* to use Web3 features.

The spokesperson revealed that the game intends to make money by selling in-app items and energy levels. It’ll also allow in-game ads with gamers having the option to skip them. Watching the ads will earn players extra perks like multiplying their scores.
Earlier this month, Varun Biniwale, a researcher, found the game’s hidden web pages indicating that the game intends to lean on crypto and is planning to release a native token known as the Flap token. Biniwale added that the new Flappy Bird game may embrace a play-to-earn model.
The Original Flappy Bird Creator Isn’t Involved
The game will airdrop rewards to users in the future although there’s no communication indicating the type of rewards or if they will involve cryptocurrencies. The game’s original creator, Dong Nguyen, has clarified that he isn’t linked to the new version.
The new game isn’t the first version to have links to the blockchain world. In 2019, the game was replicated on the EOS blockchain.
With a play-to-earn model and an airdrop in the works, the game may change its view on NFTs and lean more toward crypto.
