  • Trezor has launched a new wallet range, the Safe 3, which aims to encourage more crypto users to embrace self-custody
  • The Safe 3 wallet provides secure storage for various cryptocurrencies, maintaining Trezor’s minimalist design approach and trademark shape
  • Trezor has also introduced the Keep Metal, a steel tube for recording recovery seed phrases

Renowned crypto hardware wallet company Trezor has introduced a new wallet range and a corrosion-resistant stainless steel product designed for securely storing recovery-seed phrases. The newly unveiled Safe 3 wallet incorporates a “tamper-resistant hardware component” that provides an added layer of protection and represents Trezor’s ongoing effort to encourage more crypto users to take full control of their digital assets. Trezor says that less than 2% of the estimated 420 million global crypto users opt for self-custody, with their funds at risk of loss and seizure as a result.

Trademark Design Retains Simplicity and Functionality

The new Trezor Safe 3 wallet offers secure storage of bitcoin, ether, and over 7,000 other cryptocurrencies, retaining Trezor’s trademark shape. Its minimalist shape makes it the most compact wallet that Trezor has yet made, with the company retaining its desire for simplicity and functionality over a flashy design.

Trezor’s primary objective with these new releases is to make it easy for crypto novices and newcomers to experience the security and peace of mind that comes with independently owning and safeguarding their cryptocurrencies, as explained recently by CEO Matěj Žák.

Keep Metal Stores Recovery Seed

The Keep Metal is something different. A steel tube is engraved with 24 alphabet tables on which users can punch out the relevant letters to record their recovery seed words which they receive when they create a new wallet on the device. Such a product has been created before, but Trezor’s take on it is an evolution of existing designs.

Trezor’s physical solution is at odds with Ledger’s cloud-based Recover product which involves the storage of seed phrases in encrypted fragments with third parties, a move that drew such criticism over perceived pitfalls around privacy and security that Ledger postponed its launch

Trezor has also honored the 10th anniversary of its first-ever crypto wallet, the Trezor One, by releasing a Bitcoin-only version of the Safe 3 wallet which features all the security and design features as other wallets in the new range.
