  • Dubbed AngelX, it has already been used to target crypto wallets and projects
  • The new version targets users and projects on less mature blockchains

Scam-as-a-service platform Angel Drainer has undergone an upgrade to make it easy to use despite reportedly shutting down. According to blockchain security firm Blockaid, the wallet drainer has added new features and changed its name to AngelX, with the new version already being used to target users on less mature blockchains. Angel Drainer’s upgrade comes when other similar services like Pink Drainer are considering leaving the scamming business, something that may increase AngelX’s user base.

AngelX has an Improved Stealth Mode

In an X thread, Blockaid noted that the new version supports TON, TRON, and other blockchains. It also disclosed that AngelX has an improved user interface for easier operation, can steal a crypto wallet’s seed phrase, and employs an enhanced stealth mode to evade detection by security vendors in the web3 space.

According to Blockaid, the upgrade “means more scams” since malicious actors can easily deploy more malicious dApps across blockchains. Blockaid noted that scammers used AngelX to deploy more than 300 compromised dApps within a week after being launched. The malicious dApps aimed to siphon over $700,000 within this timeframe.

Blockaid revealed that Angel Drainer is behind prominent scams like the one involving Ledger Connect Kit. The upgrade comes less than two months after it reportedly shut down and four months after Pink Drainer announced it was leaving the scamming business.

Scammers Need to Explore the World

Pink Drainer advised scammers to “step back from the grind” and explore “what the world has to offer.” The crypto wallet drainer is on record for being a victim of an address-poisoning scam.

Inferno Drainer is another scam-as-a-service platform that has in the past announced that its winding down after helping malicious actors steal $70 million in crypto in 2023.

With Angel Drainer returning to the scamming world as AngelX, similar scamming services are likely to return to the scene but with a different identity.
