X Purges Crypto Accounts

Reading Time: 2 minutes
  • X has suspended multiple accounts tied to Pump.fun, ElizaOS, and GMGN
  • The official Pump.fun and founder Alon Cohen’s accounts have been removed ahead of their planned PUMP token sale
  • The suspensions have occurred without formal explanation, leaving token holders and communities in limbo

A sudden wave of account suspensions has hit X, targeting Pump.fun, GMGN, ElizaOS and several affiliated profiles, including founder Alon Cohen. These removals come just as Pump.fun gears up for its highly anticipated PUMP token sale, and none of the entities have received clear explanations from X as to why their accounts have suddenly been suspended. In the absence of direct communication, affected communities are left speculating about possible violations involving unauthorized APIs, spam or regulatory concerns, leaving them unclear as to how to get them restored.

Gone Quicker Than a Memecoin

X enacted its internal sweep on Monday, taking down official profiles for Pump.fun and ElizaOS as well as personal accounts of founders, including Alon Cohen and Shaw Walters. GMGN-linked accounts, including @gmgnai, @haze0x, @arthur_gmgn and affiliates, were also suspended, with a community tracker labeling it a “major CT suspensions” event:

While the platforms’ websites remain active, their primary social channels have been curtailed, threatening outreach efforts just ahead of significant token launches.

No official rationale has been provided by X for its actions, leading to suggestions of unauthorized use of third‑party or shared APIs used by Pump.fun, GMGN and Bloom for tracking tweets or automating trading, technologies that likely violate X’s platform manipulation or spam policies. Additional theories involve possible misuse of live‑stream features or wider regulatory scrutiny, though this remains conjecture.

Suspension-Themed Coins Thrive

In the immediate aftermath, Pump.fun token volumes surged, with at least five suspension-themed memecoins registering among the day’s top ten tokens on DEX Screener, collectively moving over $10 million in trading volume in one hour. Meanwhile, GMGN co‑founder Haze posted on Telegram that “the reason for the suspension remains unclear,” as teams from all impacted entities scramble to get clarity from X.

X’s sweeping suspension of accounts like Pump.fun, GMGN and ElizaOS has hit the memecoin-launch ecosystem at a pivotal moment. With the PUMP token sale looming and revenues tied to their social presence, the lack of transparency from X has left leaders scrambling. Without clear policy guidance from the platform, similar disruptions could become the new normal, complicating how crypto launchpads build and maintain their audience.
