Ripple is a centralized blockchain network that is designed for institutional banks to use for cross-border payments. Utilizing the XRP token, fiat funds are often converted into XRP, transferred to other banks, then converted back into fiat – saving time and money for banks. Ripple is the company behind the XRP token and it has multiple products – some which don’t utilize the XRP token. Lead by Brad Garlinghouse, Ripple is one of the most contentious companies in the crypto space as the crypto industry doesn’t believe the XRP token it created is genuinely a cryptocurrency.
