The SEC (U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission) exists to protect investors, maintain fair, orderly, and efficient markets, and facilitate capital formation. They have taken an ever-increasing interest in cryptocurrency since its inception, prosecuting non-compliant ICOs, promoters and crypto projects in an attempt to impose their standards on a largely unregulated market. As cryptocurrency grows, the SEC will take an even bigger role in the sector and their influence should help protect investors and ensure that projects play by the rules.
