- Ledger has launched a dynamic new hardware wallet – Ledger Stax
- The Ledger Stax was designed by Tony Fadell, builder of the iPod
- The wallet is a combination of Apple device, Amazon Kindle and hardware wallet
Ledger has launched a new hardware wallet, Ledger Stax, which it says offers “unprecedented accessibility and interactivity” with cryptocurrencies and NFTs. The launch of the Ledger Stax comes just months after it launched its budget-friendly Nano S Plus. Ledger has teamed up with Tony Fadell, builder of the iPod, to bring the new wallet to life, with Fadell’s influence certainly telling in its design, which is far removed from any of its wallets to date.

Credit Card-sized Wraparound Display
Ledger dropped its Ledger Stax wallet at the Ledger Op3n event in Paris yesterday, with CEO Pascal Gauthier presenting the new device onstage. Ledger live-tweeted the event as the new wallet made its debut, with the unveiling also streamed live:
The device is about the size and thickness of a few credit cards, with an e-ink display that can be fully personalized to show a message or even an NFT held on the device as a wraparound lock screen. The touchscreen device has a USB-C interface, wireless charging and bluetooth and NFC connectivity.
The inspiration for the design of the device is clear, with Fadell taking the same approach with hardware wallets as he did with the iPod – to combine several things into one package – with inspiration also taken from the Amazon Kindle.
The Ledger Stax allows users to manage over 500 digital assets and NFT collections and to explore a range of Web3 apps through the Ledger Live app.
Premium Price, Premium Experience?
The cost of the device will be a shade under $300, putting it at the premium end of the market, and for that price users may be a little disappointed that the screen is grayscale e-ink and not full color, meaning their NFTs will not be displayed in their full glory.
While the Ledger Stax is undoubtedly one of the most striking cryptocurrency hardware wallets yet created, and certainly a departure for Ledger, at first glance we’re not convinced that the end result is worth the price tag.
