KyberSwap Hacker Demands Control of Kyber Protocol

Reading Time: 2 minutes
  • The KyberSwap hacker has reached out to the Kyber company with strange demands
  • He wants the Kyber team to surrender control of the company to him
  • The demands come a few days after Kyberswap recovered roughly 10% of the stolen funds

The KyberSwap hacker has made some unusual demands a day after warning the Kyber team against issuing threats and shortly after the Kyber team recovered $4.7 million of stolen funds. The hacker now wants the team to relinquish control of the company including its governance, DAO and assets. He promised to double salaries and increase the value of the platform’s token, something that’s unlike demands for a bounty made by hackers in the web3 space.

12-Month Severance Including Benefits

In a blockchain message, the malicious actor said that he’s willing to buy the company’s executive members at a fair price to help them transition to other things in life. Apart from doubling employee salaries, the hacker is also willing to offer those willing to leave due to a change in management with a 12-month severance, including benefits.

The hacker has also outlined a plan to overhaul the project into a “new cryptographic project,” something that he thinks will improve its ranking among decentralized exchanges (DEXs), giving investors a higher ROI.

Liquidity providers will get rebates that the hacker thinks are “more than they deserve.” The offer however comes with conditions. Some of the conditions are that it has to be accepted before December 10 and that the Kyber team shouldn’t involve law enforcement agencies.

Be Civil, Not Hostile

On November 28, the hacker had indicated he was willing to negotiate a possible return of the funds only if the company’s executives, employees, investors and liquidity providers stop being hostile and become “more civil.”

The current demands however are unprecedented since most hackers would either ask for a bigger bounty or be recognized as a company employee.

Considering the nature of the demands, it seems like the hacker was a previous employee or the Kyber team has some fighting factions seeking to take control of the company.
