Crypto exchange Coinbase has announced an on-chain summer event and tapped popular brands like Coca-Cola ahead of its Base mainnet launch. Multi-week Celebration to Make Crypto Useful

According to Coinbase, the on-chain summer will start on August 9 and run throughout the month with participation from more than 50 brands including OpenSea, Zora, Atari, Manifold, Optimism and Rainbow. The exchange disclosed that the “multi-week celebration” is meant to make crypto useful and accessible.

Participating brands will also educate their followers on their journey on Base with collectors given a chance to chat with creators using a messaging feature on the exchange’s own wallet

Apart from an on-chain summer, Coinbase pledged to financially support developers interacting with the Ethereum scaling platform with grants worth roughly $200,000. The company has already released a user interface for its bridge making it easier for Ethereum users to interact with Base.

Free NFTs and a Wallet Service

In February, Coinbase revealed that it’s working on an Ethereum layer-two platform that will be secure and cheaper for creators in the web3 world, adding that Base will help bring the next one billion people to crypto.

The announcement was followed by free digital collectibles to help popularize the scaling layer and a Base-powered wallet service that’ll ease interaction with the web3 space. The on-chain summer comes at a time when the exchange is battling charges from the United States securities watchdog.

Although Coinbase has offered free collectibles and now an on-chain summer, it’s to be seen whether these efforts will attract creators to its Base blockchain.
