  • Dubbed “Geist,” the network will address the shortcomings found in gaming blockchains
  • Geist will be powered by multiple Ethereum scaling networks

Pixelcraft Studios, the creators of the Aavegotchi NFT game, has announced a layer 3 network to address the shortcomings of gaming-focused blockchains. Known as “Geist,” the layer 3 network will incorporate technologies from different Ethereum scaling layers like Base and Arbitrum. Pixelcraft said that Geist comes to fuel innovative web3 gaming, an area other blockchains like Immutable are exploring through a host of new features.

An Open Network with Limited Membership

In an X thread, Pixelcraft Studios revealed that Geist will be an “open network, where membership is limited, by design.” According to Pixelcraft Studios, a permissioned network will be able to curb vices found on gaming-focused blockchains.

Some of these vices include the use of bots to create multiple accounts and “inefficient reward campaigns.” It added that bad actors take advantage of permissionless blockchains to create 1000s of imaginary users to “farm rewards and evade bans.”

Pexelcraft Studios disclosed that games powered by Geist can be played by anyone but rewards will only go to verified members, something that’s likely to boost the loyalty of players. Geist will support rewards in the form of exclusive events, airdrops, and giveaways.

Game developers can become Geist members through invites. One of the ways is to get an invite is to an Aavegotchin NFT holder. After getting an invite “you pay the dues and you’ll become a member.”

Mint a Commemorative NFT to Get an Invite

Users with “excellent on-chain history” also stand a chance to become Geist members. There’s also the option to apply on the layer 3’s website and mint a commemorative NFT to stand a chance to be invited.

The layer 3 network will support features like free transactions a feature that’s being employed by upcoming gaming blockchains like Immutable zkEVM.

With Aavegotchi’s creator announcing a new layer 3 gaming network, it’s be seen whether it’ll comprehensively address the shortcomings of similar blockchains.
