A1 Telekom Austria Rolls Out Crypto Payment Terminals

A1 Telekom Austria, Austria’s leading phone network operator, has started to roll out upgraded payment terminals that will allow merchants across the country to accept cryptocurrencies as payment. As a result, A1 Payment Service will now accept Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Dash which will allow customers to pay with cryptocurrencies in “risk-free transactions” at thousands of retail establishments up and down the country.

A1 Telekom Austria Boosts Crypto Adoption

The launch of the new service, which will be accompanied by a rollout of new terminals, was announced at the beginning of the month but has now started. The upgrade means that merchants will have new payment alternatives at their disposal that are, in the words of A1 Telekom Austria, “oriented towards digital and international needs”.

Adding that “specialist knowledge about crypto-currencies is not necessary”, the move makes cryptocurrency payments available to the company’s 5.4 million mobile and 2.3 million fixed-line customers, with the cryptocurrency being exchanged to euros at the point of sale. In the press release announcing the news, A1 Telekom Austria acknowledge the increase in use of cryptocurrencies as a means of payment:

The ability of A1 Telekom Austria to offer crypto payment to clients is possible thanks to a partnership with another Austrian company, Salamantex, a Fintech company that specializes in developing digital asset payment solutions and combining them with existing payment solutions.
