What’s Going On In Crypto – April 4-9

Reading Time: 3 minutes

What’s going on in the cryptocurrency world next week? Our guide covers the key events in crypto over the coming seven days (hint – if you’re not in or can’t get to Miami, you can skip this one)

Bitcoin Miami 2022 Conference (April 6- April 9)

Bitcoin 2022 is the largest annual Bitcoin event which this year takes place on April 6th – 9th in Miami Beach, Florida. Day 1 is slated for “Industry Day,” Day 2 is slated for the “Main Conference,” and Day 3 is slated for the “Sound Money Fest.”

The Bitcoin 2022 website states that the conference will “bring together the entire Bitcoin ecosystem of companies and projects for a day of collaboration, networking, and learning” but steers clear of the drinking, drug taking, ‘gm’ing, and the rest of it that will be plaguing Twitter for the next week or two.

The main conference will bring together big names in the crypto industry to discuss hot topics and key issues. Confirmed speakers include PayPal/Planatir Co-Founder Peter Tiel; Computer scientist Nick Szabo; Jack Mallers; Professor, Psychologist, and Author Jordan Peterson; and Founder/CEO, Ark, Cathie Wood.

The Sound Money Fest will be the world’s first Bitcoin music festival. Artists that will perform include: Logic, Deadmaus, and Run the Jewels.

Solana Foundation hosts Solana Miami (April 5 – April 10)

As if one Miami-based crypto conference wasn’t enough, The Solana Foundation will be running the Solana Miami event at the same time as the Bitcoin Miami conference. Running from April 5 to 10, the event will take over a full block of Wynwood to celebrate the work of the builders, artists, merchants, and users who make up the Solana community.

According to the Solana Miami event website, the event will be populated by “a welcoming community of build-focused developers, ready to work” who will be able to take a break from their hard work and utilize “a block-long street fair with food trucks, merchants, and more — and the ability to make purchases with Solana Pay.”

The event will also feature a special NFT gallery highlighting the “amazing” artists in the Solana ecosystem and an “exclusive lounge space to learn more and unwind after a hard building day.”

AlgoTalks, Miami (April 8)

Oh for…yes, it’s another Miami conference (did we mention it is still a mecca for South American drug imports?). Algorand, which calls itself the world’s first open-source, permissionless, pure PoS (no, not ‘piece of shit’ you delinquents) blockchain protocol will be hosting AlgoTalks in Miami on April 8, 2022.

In addition to networking and eating (not necessarily in that order), AlgoTalks attendees will draw on the “Pecha Kucha” storytelling format to discuss everything that Algorand is up to. In “quick and engaging presentations”, Algorand ecosystem founders will give quick pitches on what they are building and leveraging on the blockchain as they work to “disrupt everything from finance and gaming to insurance, art, and more”.

The one-day AlgoTalks conference will feature speakers from Folks Finance, Nimble, Prismatic, Koibanx, and Futbol Eterno, which presumably means something to someone.

Light DeFi Trading on Ethereum (April 6)

Thank God, something different. Light DeFi is a token created on the Binance SmartChain platform which aims to revolutionize the renewable energy sector by combining photovoltaic plants and Decentralized Finances (DeFi).

The project’s primary goal is to use its LIGHT token to build a solar plant in Ceará, Brazil, and it will move a step further in its ambitions when it launches trading on the Ethereum network next week.

Those who are fed up with fast, cheap transactions and are waiting for much more expensive and slower ways of buying the LIGHT token can snap it up on the likes of Uniswap from Wednesday, safe in the knowledge that they will be helping bring the construction of a photovoltaic solar power plant buy buying a token on a proof-of-work blockchain.

We don’t make the rules.
