Trezor users in Europe are now able to purchase cryptocurrencies from within the hardware wallet thanks to a tie in with Dutch Bitcoin broker BTC Direct. SatoshiLabs, the creator of the Trezor wallet, announced the news of the BTC Direct integration on Thursday, which represents the first such deal between a major hardware wallet maker and a cryptocurrency broker.

Trezor Users Can Buy Direct

Hardware wallets are known primarily for their ability to store cryptocurrencies, but their functionality and usability has come a long way in recent years. The ability to buy cryptocurrency direct from within the wallet and have it go straight into cold storage is a real breakthrough moment in crypto wallet functionality, and one that does away with the need to manually input an address. This removes a potential point of weaknesses through which hackers can gain access to a device.

Linkup Illustrates Growth of Hardware Wallet Offerings

European Trezor wallet holders can buy cryptocurrencies via SEPA bank transfer and credit card, with other countries served by the likes of SOFORT, iDeal, EPS, and Bancontact. Trezor states that the credit card fees, which can be very high for crypto purchases, are “the most competitive on the European market.”

Marek Palatinus, CEO of SatoshiLabs, praised the benefits that the BTC Direct linkup offered in an emailed press release:

Thanks to BTC Direct, we are able to bring even lower fees to the native Trezor Wallet, and benefit our users while providing the safest environment for their transactions.

Davy Stevens, BTC Direct CEO, chose to comment on the ease of use the new system offered:

Users only need to link their Trezor to BTC Direct once. The next step is similar to a plug and play experience in order to keep bitcoins safe in your Trezor.

Hopefully other hardware wallet makers will follow in Trezor’s lead and factor in crypto purchasing and the like, providing the core security offering is maintained.
