- Fox Corporation has announced Time as the first partner for its blockchain-based Verify protocol
- Time has integrated the Verify protocol into its content licensing and verification strategy
- Verify uses cryptographic signatures to authenticate and verify the origin and history of original journalism
Fox Corporation has announced that global media brand Time is the first partner for its blockchain-based content verification and licensing protocol, Verify. Time will integrate the Verify protocol into its content licensing and verification strategy, which launched on Polygon in January. Verify uses cryptographic signatures to authenticate the origin and history of original journalism, allowing consumers to independently verify the authenticity of content, ensuring it originates from trusted publishers.
Fox Wants to Easy Content Verification
Fox believes that Verify will enable a technological environment that empowers consumers to effectively navigate the landscape of digital media and be sure that what they’re seeing is genuine. The platform not only authenticates content but also bridges media companies with AI platforms, leveraging smart contracts to “establish programmatic conditions for content access,” creating new commercial opportunities for content owners.
To date, Verify has signed over 300,000 pieces of content from Fox Sports, Fox News, Fox Business, and Fox Television Stations, including both articles and images, enhancing the integrity and trustworthiness of media content.
Mark Howard, Chief Operating Officer at Time, said in a press release announcing the deal that Verify was essential at a time when trust in media organisations is reducing:
At Time, we are committed to advancing our mission of providing trusted journalism for our global audience of 120 million people by embracing new innovations and pioneering emerging technologies—from blockchain to AI. Time is proud to join Fox’s Verify as an authenticated source of fact-based journalism at a time when access to trusted information is more important than ever.
Melody Hildebrandt, Chief Technology Officer at Fox Corporation, echoed these sentiments:
In Time, we have found a partner that shares our AI-optimism as well as our commitment to protecting brand equity and authenticity while delivering our content in new and meaningful ways. Fox and Time are brands that consumers trust, and we look forward to working together to continue to evolve Verify in a way that empowers consumers and content producers and allows this ecosystem to flourish.
Blockchain Change in the Works
Fox plans to transition Verify beta from the Polygon network to an independent zero-knowledge (ZK) blockchain on Ethereum, partnering with Gelato for its implementation. Verify will then operate as a ZK-powered blockchain dedicated to content verification, with the upgrade aiming to enable faster, easier, and more affordable interactions while maintaining transparency and authenticity.
With this new phase, Fox and Time are set to redefine the landscape of digital content verification, combining trusted journalism with cutting-edge blockchain technology to foster a secure and reliable media ecosystem.
