If you’re using a hardware wallet – which you should be doing – then you know that the user interface can be a tad bland, and often rather confusing when you want to check your portfolio. Until now, we’ve been stuck using the apps from Ledger, Trezor and other hardware wallet manufacturers. Thankfully, ShapeShift has launched its new no account needed platform. Simply plug in your Trezor or KeepKey to experience a stunning crypto interface – all for free!
Coming Back from the Storm
Crypto winter nipped at the heels of ShapeShift, and for the large part it managed to avoid feeling the bite. However, towards the end of crypto winter, ShapeShift was forced to layoff a large portion of its staff. Since then. ShapeShift has rebranded, added a wealth of new features and its future is looking bright once more. This brand-new free to use and no account needed interface is exactly what the crypto world has been after, and it’s super simple to use. On the other hand, you will still need a verified account if you want to buy and sell crypto – you can only send, receive and hodl without passing KYC.
No Support for Ledger… Yet
According to the announcement from ShapeShift, the only supported hardware wallets are KeepKey and Trezor – no mention of Ledger. Recently, Ledger has run into a few snags, with an update that broke compatibility with a number of Windows OS machines. This left users frustrated and unable to access crypto stored on their Ledger device. Since then, Ledger has promised that the latest Windows update should resolve the issue, but a handful of people are still reporting issues.
This new update from ShapeShift is huge for the hodl community, and Trezor users finally have an app that’s comparable or possibly even better than Ledger Live. While the features are slightly disappointing, it’s understandable that you need to pass KYC in order to trade crypto.
