The Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) Crypto Task Force has announced four forthcoming roundtables aimed at exploring various aspects of crypto asset regulation. These sessions, scheduled from April to June 2025, will address topics including crypto trading regulations, custody issues, asset tokenization, and the intersection of traditional and decentralized finance. Open to the public, the events will be held at the SEC’s Washington D.C. headquarters and streamed live online.

From Custody to the “American Spirit”

The SEC’s Crypto Task Force, headed by Commissioner Hester M. Peirce, was formed in the wake of the Trump administration’s return to office. The group has had an immediate impact, with its very presence enough to assist with the closure of several high-profile enforcement actions.

The round of public roundtables was outlined by Commissioner Perice yesterday, who revealed that they are designed to foster dialogue among experts, industry participants, and the public. In a press release, Commissioner Peirce emphasized the importance of these discussions:

The Crypto Task Force roundtables are an opportunity for us to hear a lively discussion among experts about what the regulatory issues are and what the Commission can do to solve them.

The note outlined what each roundtable will focus on:

  • April 11, 2025 – Between a Block and a Hard Place: Tailoring Regulation for Crypto Trading
  • April 25, 2025 – Know Your Custodian: Key Considerations for Crypto Custody
  • May 12, 2025 – Tokenization – Moving Assets Onchain: Where TradFi and DeFi Meet
  • June 6, 2025 – DeFi and the American Spirit

Online and In-Person Viewing Available

The Crypto Task Force encourages individuals interested in contributing as panelists to reach out via email with the subject line “Potential Panelist.” Further details, including session agendas and speaker information, will be provided on the Crypto Task Force’s webpage as they become available.

Each session will be hosted at the SEC’s headquarters at 100 F Street, N.E., Washington, D.C., and will also be accessible via live stream on the SEC’s official website. In-person attendees are required to register in advance through the SEC’s website, with space potentially limited due to security protocols. Virtual participants do not need to register, and recordings of the sessions will be made available online for later viewing.

This series underscores the SEC’s proactive approach to understanding and addressing the complexities of crypto asset regulation through open and inclusive dialogue, which is a marked change from the previous administration’s approach.
