Ripple has gotten into the habit of adding cryptic messages to its huge transactions, and we think we’ve finally cracked their code. The memos are starting to look more and more like quotes from top Ripple members and community influencers – a pattern we are truly starting to appreciate. In its latest transaction, Ripple moved a whopping 13 billion XRP tokens – worth around $317 million – and included the memo “The revolution will be televised…”. The transaction was an escrow execution, so this isn’t a hint about a new mystery partner, but instead a nod to a famous XRP YouTube Personality.
YouTube Personalities Step Up to the Plate
If you know anything about Ripple and its XRP token, there is a good chance you follow a number of XRP YouTube personalities. The quote “The revolution will be televised…” is a nod to Jungle Inc who talks about how XRP is the future, gives great XRP market analysis and – most importantly – is televising the future of XRP. The YouTuber has clearly caught the eye of the big dogs over at Ripple and they have decided to give him a nod in their latest escrow movement.
A Pattern of Cryptic Memos
Back in February, Ripple sent 1 Billion XRP and included the message “Crawl… Walk… Run…”. For a while the crypto community was stumped by what this could mean, and we think we have finally figured it out. Instead of being a nod to a new partnership, it was a quote from Brad Garlinghouse’s AMA over on Quora. In his AMA, Garlinghouse said:
But it’s safe to say that we have to crawl before we walk before we run. This is uncharted territory for banks and payment providers, and it’s going to take time before you see broad adoption of digital assets solving this multi-trillion-dollar opportunity. Suffice it to say, we are very pleased by the interest from various pilots our customers are already running.
Here you can see where the Ripple team got their memo “Crawl… Walk… Run…”. While it’s fun to think that it was a quiet nod to a secret partnership and the truth is more mundane, it’s nice to see the people in charge of the transactions are paying attention to their leader!
Ripple frequently makes massive transactions to companies and between its own escrow wallets. Traditionally at the beginning of the month, escrow movements help Ripple keep its wallet topped up and ready for partners to request more XRP tokens.
