Power Ledger Lets French Citizens Pick Renewable Energy Source

Reading Time: 2 minutes

With climate change being the talk of the town, more and more people are looking to only use renewable energy where possible. Fortunately for French citizens, French energy retailer EkWateur gives its customers the ability to draw renewable energy from its various generation sources around the country.

In a bid to give consumers more control over their energy source, EkWateur has teamed up with Australian blockchain-based cryptocurrency and energy trading platform, Power Ledger. The partnership will allow more than 220,000 people in France to be able to select how their power is generated as well as track it from source to socket using blockchain technology.

Total Choice Thanks to Blockchain

The platform, dubbed Vision, will allow French power consumers to have total say over their power source. So, whether these consumers wish to have their energy made from the first 100% renewable gas energy from biomethane or wind turbines, consumers can now log into Vision and dictate their preference. The platform updates every 30 minuets, allowing users to track their energy from farm to socket. Speaking on the partnership, Dr Jemma Green, Executive Chairman of Power Ledger, said:

Whether consumers want to source energy from their neighbour’s solar rooftop panels or a wind farm in Bordeaux, our platform gives consumers choice and control over their energy source.

Blockchain Enabling More Consumer Choice

Until now, creating a platform that allowed consumers to track and control their energy sources has been rather difficult. But, thanks to the innovation of blockchain technology and the hard-working team over at Power Ledger, it’s now a possibility that millions of people would never have dreamed of. In light of this development, it wouldn’t be a surprise if more climate change focused consumers switched their energy providers to ones like EkWateur that provide this incredible option.

The crypto and blockchain world has been ridiculed from day one over its power usage, but Power Ledger and EkWateur are teaming up to help quash any bad blood and show the world that blockchain implementations can in fact help the world become more green through the use of renewable energy
