Californians Can Turn Change into Crypto Without Fees

Reading Time: 2 minutes

California is one of the most relaxed and “hip” states in America, so it comes as no surprise that two companies have teamed up to help locals turn their spare change into crypto without charging any fees. Coinstar and Coinme have joined forces to combine their expertise and create this zero-fee crypto ATM network across the state, all in the name of mass adoption – how kind of them!

A Match Made in Heaven

Coinstar started out life offering users the ability to take their hoard of coins, dump them into one of its machines, and get crisp dollar bills back in return. It’s now combining this technology and wide network of machines around the state to dispense vouchers, which can then be redeemed on the Coinme website for Bitcoin. Once users have changed their coins into Bitcoin, they can then send it to any crypto wallet they desire – a great way to get rid of all that spare change you have in your pocket.

Service Spreading Across the US

If you’re living elsewhere in the US – or planning on taking a vacation to the country – don’t panic, the pair are working on rolling it out to their entire network around America. Currently, the service is available at kiosks in various Albertsons and Safeway stores throughout California, Texas, and Washington State. Plans to expand this network are well underway, but it might take a little bit more time due to the regulatory environment of crypto activity in some states.

The Rise of Crypto ATMs

Crypto ATMs are becoming rather popular, as they offer quick and easy ways to get your hands on various cryptos while you’re out and about. In fact, on the blockchain island of Malta they are the fastest and most convenient way of getting any form of crypto since Maltese banks decline any transfers to crypto exchanges. There are more than 4,000 crypto ATMs worldwide and some of those are the increasingly popular two-way ATMs. Two-way crypto ATMs let users turn their cash into crypto, as well as turn their crypto into cash – perfect for travelers who don’t want to take foreign currency home with them.
It’s clear that people are constantly looking for new ways to get their hands on and spend crypto, it’s just a matter of time before governments lend a helping hand to the cause. This new fee-less project gives people with stacks of change a new way to save the pennies and hopefully earn some nice rewards on the side.
