Ticketmaster Chooses Flow for NFT Push

Reading Time: 2 minutes
  • NFT blockchain Flow has announced that Ticketmaster has chosen it as its NFT distributor
  • Ticketmaster will now issue commemorative NFTs to ticket buyers, with the potential for NFT tickets down the road
  • Five million NFTs have already been minted by Ticketmaster through the Flow blockchain

Ticketing giant Ticketmaster has joined the likes of UFC, NBA and the NFL and chosen the Flow blockchain for its push into NFTs. Ticketmaster was supposed to be working with Polygon as per a November 2021 announcement, but in February it announced it was going to trial using Flow for the Super Bowl LVI. It seems that the trial proved more than successful, with event organisers now able to issue NFTs on Flow through Ticketmaster, including tickets, memorabilia, VIP access and other rewards.

Tickets Are a Great Fit for NFTs

Event ticketing is one of the more obvious use cases for NFTs, with the unique and immutable nature of them being perfectly suited to such a venture. However, it seems that NFT tickets themselves might be a stretch too far for the technology at the moment, and Ticketmaster has decided to dip its toe into Web 3.0 with NFT addons first.

As the website Sports Business Journal reported this week, Ticketmaster has already issued a whopping five million NFTs, beginning with 70,000 one-of-one virtual commemorative ticket NFTs for last year’s Superbowl. The Black Crowes, the Apollo Theater and Gavin DeGraw have all participated in Ticketmaster’s NFT drops, with more set to follow.

Flow Blazing a Trail

Flow tweeted about the partnership on Wednesday, with the company rightly able to herald what is a genuinely huge deal:

With real world NFT adoption still in its infancy, Flow seems to be blazing a trail on its own, racking up some top quality partners and now, it seems, even stealing them from other blockchains.
