Luxury timepiece makers Jacob & Co have launched an extraordinary looking watch inspired by Bitcoin. The titanium Astronomia Solar Bitcoin, the price of which is available upon request, has 43 jewels and 364 components and is described by the company as “a highly symbolic tribute to the world of cryptocurrencies and to its pioneering and leading example, Bitcoin.” While the timing of the launch, in the depths of a bear market, may be somewhat off the pace, there is nothing shoddy about the craftsmanship that has gone into this incredible looking piece.

“Unprecedented Concept”

Jacob & Co calls the Astronomia Solar Bitcoin “a world-first both in its unprecedented concept and its mechanical construction”, stating that it is the “most compact” in the collection of the horologist’s Astronomia timepieces. The watch contains as its centrepiece a rotating Bitcoin currency logo, and also features a yellow sapphire sun, a 1 carat diamond moon and a golden Earth.

A miniature black rocketship, complete with flaming reactor and Bitcoin sign, can also be seen, while the base of the movement has been designed to resemble an integrated circuit – the unique web of electronic connections of which microchips are made.

Bear Market Won’t Put Off True Believers

Luxury watches are synonymous with having ‘made it’ in the crypto space, as is the ubiquitous Lambo, but such fineries are far less frequently on display during this part of a market cycle. However, there will be plenty who made a packet in the 2020-21 bull market and who will fancy one of the limited edition of 25 Astronomia Solar Bitcoin watches being crafted by Jacob & Co.

Let’s hope they don’t end up on the secondary market like all those Rolexes and Patek Phillipes.
